Enchantment of the Seas

Ship Safety Information

When some individuals hear the words “Cruise Ship”, they immediately equate themselves with the R.M.S Titanic.  Truth being, cruise ships have never been safer.

According to the convention of the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), by law, there must be enough life-boats for all passengers and crew, or in the case of the Enchantment of the Seas, it has a maximum capacity of 3570 persons.  Each lifeboat on all Royal Caribbean is designed to hold a minimum of 150 persons each, with a minimum of 10-12 boats on each cruise ship.  In addition to having enough lifeboats for all passengers and crew, there are also a number of inflatable life-rafts to increase capacity.  All ships are equipped with the latest in GPS technology which not only guides each ship (and lifeboat) safely, but allows searchers to locate each individual ship at a glance.

Each ship also is equipped with the latest in fire detection and suppression systems.  All areas of the ship are protected by fire sprinklers, and all ships have a dedicated fire fighting team on board.

What sort of security is onboard?

Cruise lines post 9-11 have had to drastically increase their physical security.  Prior to cruise day, all passenger names are sent to the FBI and Department of Homeland Security for verification.  Prior to boarding the ship, all baggage (both carry-on and checked) is screened for weapons and explosives by K-9 and technical means.  All passengers and crew are also screened.  Divers check the hull of all ships prior to departing any and all ports of call.  Onboard the vessel there is a self-contained security force, primarily plainclothes but there is also a uniformed presence as well.
